Education

The Coventry BCS have worked with local school teachers for many years to support and encourage computer science activities in schools.

Every two years the Challenge IT competition ran to highlight the work done by teams of school aged children.

In the competition ‘interim’ years, the branch organised a teachers’ conference.

Branch members supported the Computing At School hub for Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Branch also awards prizes to students at Coventry University and the University of Warwick.

With the change to the ‘Computing’ school curriculum and the corresponding advent of the Computing At Schools (CAS) initiative (and the creation of regional CAS hubs,) the need for the Branch Challenge IT competition diminished. Therefore we stopped running it; as it consumed a lot of resources and many of our sponsors “lost enthusiasm”.
