The EU General Data Protection Regulation is due to come into force 25 May 2018. The regulation is being reflected in UK law. It applies to all sizes of organisation and across all sectors. The responsibilities are wide ranging and this is not just an IT data problem. The sizes of potential fines are large enough to get Board attention. This session is designed to give an opportunity to understand how quality professionals can address their responsibilities and how it will affect all organisations, from large to SME and micro businesses.
Carol Long has been looking at the way organisations manage business processes and associated data since the late 1980s. As a manager and consultant she has worked with software companies, in not for profit organisations, for large global public companies and advised small businesses. As a programme manager she’s been involved in business changes, in the United Kingdom and internationally, that have required broad and deep views of the data assets these organisations hold. Working with not-for-profit organisations in the 2010s, she recognised the growing privacy and data protection lobbies and saw the British initiatives as part of the European Union changes in data protection regulations that are now enshrined in GDPR (The General Data Protection Regulations).
EurIng Carol Long is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute, a Chartered Quality Professional, a Chartered Engineer and a founder member of the Association for Project Management’s Governance SIG. She serves on the BCS Quality committee and was a founder member of BCS Women.
